This Privacy Policy explains what information The Estate Planning Guide (“we,” “us,” the “Site”) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

The Estate Planning Guide is an independent educational publisher. We are based in Ontario, Canada, and our readers are primarily in the United States. We are not a law firm, insurance agency, or financial services provider, and we do not sell, broker, or refer consumer leads.

2. Information we collect

Information you send us. The Site has no contact form, no account system, no comments, and no newsletter signup. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to respond to you.

Please do not email us financial account numbers, government identification numbers, or details of your health or family circumstances. We do not need them and cannot advise on your situation.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, limited technical data is collected by three service providers — Cloudflare, which hosts and delivers the Site; Google Analytics 4; and Ahrefs Analytics. This includes:

Cloudflare logs IP addresses as part of delivering the Site and protecting it from abuse and attack. This is standard for any website and is not used to build a profile of you.

We do not capture phone numbers. We do not add anyone to a mailing list.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site displays advertising served through Mediavine’s Journey programme. 4. Advertising and no paid placement

The Site displays advertising served through Mediavine. Advertisers do not choose, review, or influence what the Site writes. An ad is not a recommendation or an endorsement.

We receive no payment, commission, or referral fee from any law firm, attorney, insurance carrier, agent, or service provider mentioned on the Site. No company can pay to appear in our guides or influence their content. We do not accept sponsored content and we do not sell links.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a "device") by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, "Tags") may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. 5. Analytics

Google Analytics 4. We use GA4 to understand aggregate traffic patterns. It uses cookies and may collect your IP address and device information. You can opt out globally by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google’s data practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Ahrefs Analytics. We use Ahrefs Analytics as a lightweight, privacy-focused measurement tool. It is cookieless, does not track you across websites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Ahrefs’ practices are described in the Ahrefs Privacy Policy.

Google Search Console. This reports how the Site performs in Google Search. It places no cookies on your device and collects no information from you through this Site.

6. How we use information

Advertising on the Site is served through Mediavine, and Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads. Several state privacy laws treat that use as “sharing” personal information for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising, whether or not any money changes hands. Email correspondence is retained for up to 24 months and then deleted. Google Analytics data is retained according to our retention setting, currently 14 months. Cloudflare and Ahrefs retain technical log data according to their own published policies.

Advertising on the Site is served through Mediavine, and under several state privacy laws the use of cookies and identifiers to serve and measure those ads counts as “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising. To opt out of that use, follow the opt-out choices listed on the Mediavine Partners page and the industry opt-out pages named in section 4, and use your browser’s cookie controls; blocking or deleting advertising cookies stops that use on the device you are reading from.

We operate from Canada and use service providers located in the United States and elsewhere. Your information may be processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. By using the Site or contacting us, you consent to this cross-border transfer.

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable law requires). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Site links to state government portals, court websites, and other external resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third-party site. Review their privacy policies before providing any information.
